Trump evacuated from White House Correspondents’ Association dinner

President Donald Trump and other administration officials were ushered out of the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner on Saturday night as guests were forced to duck due to an unspecified threat.

The program will resume momentarily, WHCA President Weijia Jiang later told the attendees.[It did not resume]

It remains unclear exactly what the threat at the event, which is hosted at a hotel in Washington, was.

The president was joined at the event by a host of White House officials, including Vice President JD Vance, deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. [Top 7 in Presidential line all at the same event]

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding the status of the event.

Let's look at logistics

There have been not one, but two purported attempts. That, alone, should call for very tight and heightened security.

- only cursory looks at tickets

- Tickets to the dinner only had table numbers written on them and not the actual names of guests. Identification was not checked at any point for those entering the hotel

- Guests making their way to the dinner went down escalators from the main lobbies, before going through a security checkpoint

- Why was vance removed before trump.

- Why did a person who considers the press an enemy, and who has never attended this event before do so now? It doesn't scan.

- conveniently happens when approval ratings are at an all time low and trump wants his golden goose

To the best of my knowledge, any meetings with Xi will have just begun. The main agenda item is said to be working towards a "truce" in the nascent trade war, with Taiwan policy a possible topic, but not intended to be the main focus.

Yes, the potential for Trump to basically abandon Taiwan is very much there. That would be beyond foolish (even considering the source), but remains a distinct possibility. China wants so very badly to take control of Taiwan's cutting edge chip making industry, and removing a US military response from the scenario would alter China's calculations massively. China's chance of a successful invasion, rather low with the US involved, rises enormously if they're facing Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, and possibly (but not certainly) South Korea.

Yes, we woudl be stabbing multiple allies in the back by such an action, but I rather doubt that enters into Trump's calculations. The Iran fiasco has our military response options reduced as it is.

Yeah: if China is facing only those East Asian allies (but w/o US forces), they could very well succeed in at least the occupation of Taiwan and deposition of their current government. The only legitimately major player in terms of military force in that group is rapidly-rearming Japan, and while Japan on its own is capable of holding off, for a while, a Chinese invasion attempt of Japan, they don't have enough force projection capability (or simple raw force, for that matter) to turn the tide in Taiwan. Add even currently in-place US forces, and this changes things a fair bit. Add US rapid response* forces, and China loses, straight up.

However, there quite possibly would be little left of Taiwan's precious chip industry, even if they don't face much more than Taiwan itself and Japan. The desire to avoid China taking control of that globally ultra-critical is widespread and very, very strong. "Scorched earth..."

* Mind you , a LOT of this capability, as well as huge amounts of US ordnance, got tied up in Donnie's Big Iran Adventure...instead of ensuring it is in place against a far more "imminent" threat than Iranian nukes capable of attacking the US ever was.

I doubt it, or he'd have known that these scooters and mopeds (NOT motorcycles) were illegal in the sense of being stolen, unregistered or unlicensed, and used in crimes.

Also that they were used in commission of crimes including street racing and drive-by shootings.  And that this sort of thing was common among those who drive them in NYC.
