I agree, greenman: the (latest) Middle East blow-up "discussion" is basically politically-motivated flame warring and has not only started to dominate the board but has markedly lowered the already subterranean level of civility. There are some bad actors on either side.

That's too bad, because there are SO many ethical questions arising from this episode, and R&E should be the perfect place to address them (which I want to point out is something Bean's posts generally do). I've hesitated to jump in much, despite being requested to do so and having some fairly strong opinions about the ethical matters involved, because the subject is just a morass of bickering.

The public toilet clogged, overflowed, and went unreported for at least a few hours. All three of them. Floor is a mess, and the whiff seeped out into adjacent Customer Service.
There are no innocents among warring factions. My side is for the innocents caught in crossfire, targets of errant misses, or acceptable collateral damage as part of war.
Criticism of Israel does NOT make one antisemitic, nor is an expression of support for Hamas.

Agreed. And it’s only a few; even Bean, who is partisan, is reasonably civil.

David Mayer and CE0802 are the two big problems. I think everyone else could be reasonable.

collateral damage to innocent civilians, that is still a justifiable

He is reducing the definition between Hamas supporter, Palestinian supporter

by an IDF mission, he might not just not care, but actually be happy about it.

Where is the due process to determine if targets in other countries are Hamas?
He seems to think if the IDF declare someone Hamas, they are. Just like he
is the authority on climate change who knows it all and listens to nobody else.
Their word is authority and law, and so is his.

Pikes, I just deleted all four of them. As you suspected, they are all the same individual who has registered no less than 15 other times, all of which were rejected. They use ridiculous emails with ridiculous names and a proxy to put them in places all over the globe. I ignored the notifications since I was sure it was the same one after looking at their profiles, but just now deleted them all after a closer look to be certain they are just the same old troll. Thanks for the reminder.
