Should we keep or lose Daylight Saving Time?

There are all kinds of pros and cons regarding DST.

Dozens of studies have shown increases & decreases in power use with/without DST; differences in pedestrians killed at dusk; productivity in outdoor jobs; and even in the general happiness levels of humans. Pros & cons for each.

The only one that makes any real sense to me is that schoolchildren are safer traveling and walking to school in daylight, which is a decent reason to go back to standard time during fall/winter.

But that reason DOESN'T support going to daylight savings time for Spring/Summer. Summer is the only time when it's REALLY beneficial, but I think that is social conditioning, not actually an inherent benefit.

Your thoughts?

Re: Should we keep or lose Daylight Saving Time?

That was tried. During winter, school children reported for school in the dark, and that led to safety concerns. So year around DST returned to its cycle.
The cycle works well.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Re: Should we keep or lose Daylight Saving Time?

Standard time is what keeps the children safer in the winter going to school, which is why we go back to it in the late fall and change back to DST in March.  Year round DST would make it dark in the AM when children are headed to school throughout the colder months, but, during warmer months, it keeps it light until after 9PM.
Or did I confuse what you were trying to say ??

Nope. You got it. Keep ST during winter, and use DS for summer.
