I've just about given up over on the yellow board. I doubt Ken is happy with the way things are, so changes need to be made. . . . board registration and simply ban certain posters, IMO, is the way to go or at least try it and see how it goes . . . ban them permanently.
Problem is there are certain posters I enjoy conversing with who aren't here, Christopher Blackwell being one.

You don't need to apologize. It's obvious that the regulars who trash post on Ken's board are adults. That adults need to be babysat is beyond ridiculous. That adults need to be told that certain behaviors are not acceptable is also ridiculous.
Bottom line is that they are responsible for their own behaviors. It reflects back on them, though they seem to be impervious to that simple fact.
I am generally not one for censorship but that board has been pulled down and its not worth the time to wade through the trash to get to anything of content that might be posted.

Ken & Grasshopper posted a thread addressing GOG's racist posts. Based on his history, he won't stop. He is clever enough to find a way with language to start in again using 'disguised' language. He will become more aggressive and direct as time goes on. Ken doesn't have the time to monitor the board as it needs to be - and it needs to be babysat since there are so many problem posters there.
It goes on too much and too often, along with other crap that constantly goes on. There is no use in my objecting either. Been there, done that - jb appears to be temporarily gone but there are others to take his place. Name changes but the story remains the same. Trash posting. The guilty really need to be banned for good, but that won't happen. They'll find ways around IP bans with proxy servers and so on.
I have no idea why they want to drive the board down but its obvious they do.
Ken's board and his decision. I get that. But I am tired of all the crap. I've quietly packed my bags and left. No one will notice anyway as most on that board prefer to fight and I don't go to any message board to fight. I have enough of that crap going on with my health insurance carrier. I don't need more garbage.
It is what it is. Shrug.

Hello fellow posters! Just wanted to stop by and say hi. I've been reading but not participating (esp. on the yellow board) . . . one gains an interesting perspective when one just sits back, takes it all in, and doesn't participate. I've been curious about the yellow board - whether jb's absence (granted temporary) would bring about any changes. Now that he is back, I will continue to sit back for a while and 'take it all in'. I was never interested in the 'war of words' approach. I much prefer to simply share one's view and agree to disagree when appropriate. We shall see what happens next.
JB started a thread - and it disappeared into the black void. LOL! That sure didn't take long at all.

Oh! I thought my login info for this board would not work over there. I'll have to check it out tomorrow. It's late here (or early, depending on how you look at it).
G'nite.

Thank you Sia! Good to see the old gang and you too.
I lurk from time to time, but didn't have much time to invest in the boards. I do so hate to be a 'hit and run' poster, abandoning threads or failing to respond to someone who took the time to talk to me. Thus, I withdraw from the boards when I can't give them the attention I wish. It's probably more my hang up than a problem for everyone else.
Moderating is a big and often thankless job. Can't please everyone, so best to do what one believes is right.
I don't think my login ID/password works on the other blue board.

First to the most important issue - I am very happy to see that Sia's recovery is heading in the right direction. She has had many, many difficult challenges thrown her way and I hope she is through the worst of it.
Second, I see Ken's R & E is locked. Mysteries of the Universe is not locked. I suspect that may offer up a clue as to why Yellow is locked.
I suspect that there is a tremendous amount of history between and among the regular posters here (and other places) that has built to this crescendo (Woodbine's going bye-bye and now everyone on Ken's board in timeout) to which I am not privy, being a comparative late comer. I assume that a good deal of that history is what is driving current events, if not I would venture to say that this history at least influences current events. Unfortunate for me I was considering posting again - I do have the worst timing, always. Go figure.
I refrain from offering my voice to the mix - due to something like everyone has an opinion (like everyone has a particular anatomical part), and no one asked anyway (which is most naturally fine).
Anyrate, just wanted to send my well wishes to Sia and say hi to everyone.
Carry on.

I've decided not to respond to JB any longer. Call it a New Year's resolution, or whatever, but I hope I follow through.
In the past, I have limited myself to posting when he claimed the Bible foretold Baha'i or when he claimed Baha'i's equality or superiority to Jesus. That never worked because he never read the posts. Just came back with one-liners.
So, we will see if I have to willpower to just abstain from him.
For reasons I don't get, jb attempts to hijack Christianity and twist it to be about Baha'u'llah (real name Ḥusayn-ʻAlí). I am not Christian and that behavior even annoys me!
Sometimes its fun to poke at the bear and make fun of his nonsense/insults. He fails with great consistency to read responses to him.
I will join the group and put him on my 'Do not response' list. Maybe we can help bring a little sanity to the Yellow Board by doing so.

Yes, that is what I essentially use Facebook for too. Occasionally, though, I do run across a drama queen that won't shut up. It really gets annoying - and then the childish unfriending starts. I have made it a policy to sit back and just by-pass the side-show when it starts. I go to FB to kick back and relax and enjoy the photos and stories everyone posts. Arguments are not my cup of tea. There is too much stress in real life to go around on the internet looking for more, social media included.
I feel bad about Woodbine's board as it was all fine and good until some of the newer posters hit town. I don't blame him for having enough of it. The Sum-episodes are beyond my understanding. I don't get what that was all about and it's a waste of time trying to figure it out anyway. I left when it became apparent that the board was in its death throes. Ah well. . . .
The Back Alley - Unmoderated Discussion » I kinda miss Woodbine's board now » 12/02/2022 1:14 am |
Yes! I miss the board when Woodbine was running show. I would always go there for the humor. I have no idea who Sum was, and it essentially doesn't matter. Sum didn't seem interested in returning the board back to its heyday. Maybe Sum was not capable of it. Who knows.
I don't have a Twitter account and never did.
Facebook has changed too. I guess the saying "All good things come to an end" is indeed true. Too bad.

An amazing dressage horse, (a Dutch Warmblood and unfortunately gelded) - Valegro.
HOME & FAMILY topics » What kind and how many pets do posters have ?? » 6/22/2019 11:15 pm |
None.
Use to have - two dogs (German Shepherds my fav), two tiger stripped cats (one gray, one orange), a miniature rabbit (light gray with dark gray points), fresh water tropical fish and gold fish, a Palomino Quarter Horse.
Kept all of my pets until we lost them to old age. It would break my heart if I ever had to give any of them up.
I now have multiple bird feeders - suet for the Woodpeckers, Nyger seed for the finches, mixed seeds (black oil sunflower, nuts, berries, peanuts, and more) for the song birds, four nectar feeders for the Hummingbirds.
My feathered friends include Robins, Crows, Ravens, Blue Jays, Nuthatches, House Finches, Purple Finches, Goldfinches, Cardinals, Tufted Titmouse, Downy Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Red bellied Woodpecker, Pileated Woodpecker, Juncos, Sparrows, Ruby throated Hummingbird, Catbird, Morning Doves. . .I've heard the calls of Common Loons, Owls, seen Red-tailed hawks and even a Bald Eagle.

I think Ken is very fair (too tolerant at times - but I understand he has demands on his time) and it's a shame that so many posters don't respect his efforts for them. When I see a convo going down, I just abandon the thread.
Yes, the board is better now, but it won't last sadly. I am just tired to the constant garbage. I still work full time, have a home we are trying to renovate, lots of yard work - just not interested in spending so much time wading through the trash in order to find the occasional worthy discussion. Even those tend to get trashed with the trolls.
Thanks for the invite!! It would be fun meeting some of the posters - always wonder what everyone looks like, who they are in RL, and if they match up to what my mind's eye currently sees them as.

Sia - I don't do canvas painting, tho I think about giving it a try. One never knows if one has hidden talents that have yet to be explored. I paint models, so to speak - right now, I have making a birdbath out of a supersized clay pot (it has a relief on it) and an oversized tray. I love, love, love crafting Halloween decorations - it attracts the little kids to my door (they are so cute in their costumes!) and the older kids (love having fun with them as well). I have skeletons (admittedly store bought), carved pumpkins (of course!), tomato cage ghosts and spirits, a pirate's treasure chest (bought it unfinished and finished it to make it look old), snakes, am currently making a pumpkin head scarecrow and am planning a graveyard with a life size grave digger (made out of burlap which is very creepy), am planning on some life-size ghosts, maybe a witch and/or devil. . . . Halloween is the chance to be a kid again and have lots of fun without the stress that so often comes with Christmas.
Pikes - Thank you! I can read music, but my sight reading skills need work. I think ear training is essential and does not get enough attention when it comes to formal training. Playing by ear is a good exercise for tuning up one's ear - just grab a song that one loves from any CD, sit down at the 88s, and give it a go. It's also fun to tweak the music and give a try at one's own arrangements.
I also go to youtube, look at instructional videos, and change the arrangement to my pleasure. Exploring all avenues is the best way to become a versatile musician, I think.
I am trying to recapture my skills as they once were - when I was a kid I had plenty of time to devote to music but as an adult, the demands on my time interfered heavily. Now that we are empty nesters, and I no longer have my ill parents to care for, I have more time.
I heard that the great Pavarotti didn't really know how to read music. He would hire a musician to play a piano and work with

An absolutely lovely piece. So much so that I asked my older daughter, who is very artistic, to draw a wreath of flowers surrounding the piece on the faux parchment paper that I have Desiderata printed on. She did a great job - not overdone.
I framed it and it occupies a special place in the master bedroom.

Just thought I would pop in and say hi. For those of you who visit Ken's yellow board, I am 'Ennui' over there.
I thought a change in name is in order for a new board. Why dancing digits? I am a crafter - crochet, sew, paint. . . .and play piano (have had some formal private training - but I am not above noodling something out by ear).
